Workshops

SLIP offers workshop for adults (including men’s health) and children of all ages. All workshop   presentations are facilitated by professionals in the food service, health care, home economics and teaching fields.  The length of workshops is 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on topics covered.

Adult workshops cover topics such as preventing and living with diabetes and high blood pressure; smoking cessation; obesity; lifestyle change weight management; healthy weight and cholesterol management; general health education; and instruction on label reading.  Most workshops include a cooking demonstration  and a question and answer  period.  All workshops include participant handouts.

Children’s workshops cover many of the same topics as the adult workshops.  The instruction comes through games and activities rather than lecture format. The children have the opportunity to do hands on gardening, food preparation, and learn healthy eating habits while cooking their own meal

Field Trips

Field trips include lifestyle centers, vegetarian store and restaurant.  Participants learn about natural remedies and treatments for common illnesses, the benefits of a vegetarian  diet, and enjoy a vegetarian meal.  Transportation is provided by SLIP.

Mini-Course (Cooking School)

The mini-course or cooking school provides more in-depth training and includes three 3-hour sessions.  The 8 Laws of Health curriculum includes videos, games, presentations, cooking demonstrations, and participant homework.  Each participant prepares a dish during the course and receives a certificate at the graduation ceremony.
